Talk Box: Shift* will take place on August 8th at 7:00 PM in The Box at SIJCC (1110 Bates Ave). Hosted by Saul Gonzalez of KCRW’s “There Goes The Neighborhood,” Talk Box: Shift will feature four panelists who each bring a different perspective to the table and have a unique story to tell about their own experience in our changing neighborhood.

The topic of gentrification is as complex as it is controversial. Gentrification is a double-edged sword; It is often productive in revitalizing city neighborhoods, yet it can impose great costs on individuals, families, and businesses who are unable to keep up with rising costs.

Panelists:

Dr. Max Baumgarten: Los Angeles historian, with an emphasis on Jewish politics and gentrification

Anselm Clinard: Local top-producing eastside real estate agent with Compass Real Estate and Courtney and Kurt Real Estate.

Samanta Helou-Hernandez: Multi-media journalist. Has a following on social media for her account This Side of Hoover. Focuses on the changing environment of the neighborhood.

Lindsey Villarreal: Television writer and producer who focuses on female driven and Latinx influenced content. She is currently working in the writers room of the STARZ show, VIDA.

Tickets for the August 8th event are $10. All funds support the work of the Silverlake Independent Jewish Community Center to ultimately help produce more community-wide events like this one. Recognizing the specific content of this discussion, all are encouraged to attend. No one will be turned away at the door if they are unable to pay.

Talk Box: Shift is the first in a series of three evening discussions open to the community. Topics for the next two center around Immigration (August 15) and Security (August 22).

The Silverlake Independent Jewish Community Center (SIJCC) has been in a staple in the neighborhood for over 65 years. The SIJCC is always striving to bring our growing community together through
